Personal branding vs. brokerage branding
How to look like yourself without breaking your brokerage's rules.
Short answer
Use your own colours, photo and voice for everything a client responds to, and carry your brokerage's mark and any required disclosure where your brokerage requires it. CardCloser holds both, separately, so you do not have to choose.
This is the question agents ask most often about their profile, and the honest answer has two parts: what CardCloser supports, and what your brokerage requires. Only one of those is ours to answer.
What CardCloser supports
- Your own colour palette.
- Your own photo and imagery.
- A personal or team logo, and a separate brokerage logo.
- Your own bio, in your own voice.
- Your brokerage name and licence details in Basics.
Nothing forces you to pick a side. Most agents who get this right use their own colours and voice, and carry the brokerage mark and required details where they belong.
What your brokerage decides
Advertising rules are set by your brokerage, your local association and your state licensing authority — not by CardCloser. Commonly they cover:
- Whether the brokerage name must appear, and how prominently.
- Whether a licence number must be shown.
- How the brokerage or franchise logo may be used, sized and spaced.
- Whether a team name needs specific qualifying wording.
Check before you publish, not after. CardCloser does not review your profile for compliance and cannot tell you what your brokerage requires. Your broker or compliance contact can, usually in one message.
A practical split
Who owns what
| Element | Usually yours | Usually the brokerage's |
|---|---|---|
| Photo | Yes | Rarely specified |
| Colours | Yes, unless a brand manual says otherwise | Sometimes required |
| Bio and voice | Yes | Rarely specified |
| Brokerage logo | No | Yes — follow the manual |
| Licence disclosure | Your responsibility | Often mandated |
If this doesn't work
- Your brokerage requires branding CardCloser does not have a slot for.
- Tell us. Use Share feedback and describe the requirement — this is exactly the kind of gap that gets fixed.
- You are unsure whether your bio complies.
- Ask your broker. CardCloser cannot give legal or compliance advice, and a guess from us would be worth less than a two-line answer from them.
